I spent time waiting for the right seagull to become the foreground of this San Francisco panorama. After several attempts, one finally landed exactly where I wanted it, with the city behind. I also noticed that the metal rail appears worn precisely where the bird sits. Perhaps it is salt and time; perhaps generations of gulls have used the same spot. I like leaving that little mystery unresolved. The seagull gives the familiar cityscape an unexpected personality.
