I went looking for San Francisco's famous cable cars and quickly discovered I was not the only photographer there. I wanted more than a picture of the tram - I wanted the steep streets and distinctive hills of San Francisco behind it. After choosing my position, I briefly stepped into the street, made several frames and moved back to safety. For me, the image captures the energy and character of the city in one moment.
